In the year 1840 on the 14th of January after the publication of three banns of marriage from the pulpit during our parochial masses for three consecutive Sundays, Joseph Papineau dit Forville, farmer, living here in this parish, major son of Joseph Papineau dit Forville and Angelique Chapdelaine dit Lariviere, the mother and father of this parish for the first part and Marie Blanchard, Resident in this parish, major daughter of Pierre Blanchard, farmer, and Arcange Cartier also of this parish for the other part, not having discovered anything to prevent this mariage, the undersigned Priest Curé having the agreement of the parents and having received the mutual consent (of the couple) they were given the blessing on their marriage in the presence of Joseph Papineau dit Forville, father, Philippe Hebert, Chapdelaine dit Lariviere, Jean Baptiste Plante witnesses for the groom, of Pierre Blanchard, father, Felix Blanchard, brother and JB Blanchard, brother witnesses for the bride all of whom as well as the said bride and groom have declared that they cannot sign.
A word (meaning a phrase?) between the lines is correct. ( means the priest wrote it)
J Boucher, Priest Curé
Anthony I can't make out all the words between the lines but I think they are just the normal phrases and the priest had not written them correctly originally. The few words I can make out just seem to restate that the banns were published on consecutive days. He also seems to have forgotten the given name of xxxx Chapdelaine dit Lariviere who was Probably and uncle of the groom.
Best regards,
Jann
